You are not the problem.
Your nervous system is.

Science-based insights for parents who want to understand themselves — and break the patterns they inherited.

Who is this for?

For the parent who loves their child deeply — and still loses it. Who has promised themselves “never again” and broken that promise. Who senses that something is being passed down, generation to generation, and wants it to stop here.

This is not about becoming a perfect parent. It is about understanding what is happening inside you — so you can show up differently.

About me

I am a GP and mental health practitioner based in New Zealand, originally from Japan. I work at the intersection of medicine, neuroscience, and inner healing — because after years of clinical practice, I came to see that most of what brings people to a doctor has roots in the nervous system and the unexamined patterns we carry from childhood.

I am also a parent who yelled. Who believed she was doing the right thing. Who had to burn out completely before she was ready to look inward. What I found changed everything — not just how I parent, but how I understand myself.

Our Vision

We are in the middle of a mental health crisis that no number of therapists can resolve alone. Real change begins before the clinic — in the homes where children’s nervous systems are first formed, in the ordinary moments between parents and children that no one else ever sees.

A parent who understands their nervous system raises a child who grows up with a different relationship to their own. That child becomes a parent. And the next generation inherits something that was not available to the one before.

A point becomes a line. A line becomes a plane. A plane becomes a world that looks different from the one we inherited.

How this works

Thriving from Inside integrates three evidence-based frameworks: polyvagal theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and neuroscience. Together, they offer a map of your inner world — why you react the way you do, what your parts are trying to protect, and how to regulate your nervous system in the moments that matter most.

POLYVAGAL THEORY

INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (IFS)

Your brain is shaped by experience — and it can change. Understanding how your nervous system developed helps you respond to your child with awareness instead of automatic reaction.

Your nervous system is always scanning for safety. Polyvagal Theory explains why you react the way you do — and how to work with your biology, not against it.

We all have different “parts” inside us. IFS helps you understand the protective parts that drive reactive behaviour — and reconnect with your calm, grounded Self.
